Batam, July 26 (Antara) - Two Singapore-bound Airbus planes diverted their flights to Hang Nadim Airport in Batam island as heavy rains fell in Changi Airport on Friday, a spokesman said.
The two planes belonged to Tiger Airways and Silk Air, according to the head of the general affairs section at the Hang Nadim Airport Suwarso.
The Tiger Airways plane which serves Singapore-Guangzhou flight route landed at Hang Nadim airport 02.40 p.m. and Silk Air plane which serves Cambodia-Singapore flight route landed at 02.50 p.m., he said.
"All passengers remained in the planes and were not allowed to get off. The planes will soon fly to Singapore after the weather condition there has improved," he said.
"They have established cooperation with a company at Hang Nadim International Airport to meet all their needs if they land at the airport," he said.
He said he did not know whether more planes would land at the airport if the weather condition in Singapore was still bad.
"We don't know whether other planes will land at the airport. Normally if weather at Changi Airport is bad, many planes will divert their fights to Hang Nadim Airport," he said.
Hang Nadim Airport has a 4.025 km runway which enables all types of planes to land at the airport. (Suharto/Yosep)
